COACHING PHILOSOPHY

My soccer coaching philosophy is anchored on player development, individually and within the team structure and concept, built on three key developmental principles that we follow in all training and games: COMMUNICATION (Tactical Understanding of the Game), DECISION MAKING (Game Analysis), EXECUTION of DECISIONS (Technical Skills).

I expect players learn to problem solve game related situations while constantly perceiving and making decisions with respect to teammates, opponents, position of the ball, understanding of space, and understanding of different tactical situations that occur throughout a game. The capacity for players to make the correct decisions, at game speed while understanding space in the game, and with minimal touches will help develop their cognitive skills and communication skills.

I believe that players learn best and improve the most by simply playing the game of soccer within game-like learning conditions, rather than memorizing routines. Part of the learning process is in making mistakes. I want players to have the freedom to be creative with their play and to make mistakes at full speed, and then learn from them. The greatest growth for each player comes through their ability to learn from their mistakes, and then working toward improving their understanding of the game individually to support the growth and success of the team. Ultimately, I expect my players to have a training mindset in which they are 100% committed to improve individually every day to support the continuous growth of the team.

“I love the game of soccer. I love coaching, I love playing, and I love learning about the game. I have been involved with soccer for the majority of my life, and continue to learn more about the game every day. I have played competitive soccer for over 30 years, and I still currently play competitive soccer, because I can’t give it up. It’s the greatest game in the world!”
